| On day two, the morning mist cleared away by around 6 am and Mt. Bandai was visible from the hotel. The entrants take a route that travels around three prefectures in the Tohoku region, Fukushima, Miyagi, and Yamagata, and goes back to Fukushima. They set off at 7 am as scheduled. They must be looking forward to meeting local people along the way. The entrants competed PC competitions in Kitashiobara Village and Inawashiro Town, then headed to Jododaira in Fukushima City. When they were about to leave for the next destination after receiving a stamp, a light rain started to fall. They drove through a winding road with a view of beautiful trees wet in the rain to the city center. When the entrants arrived at Miyagi Prefecture, the rain let up, and they headed to a stamp point in Shiroishi Castle. After receiving a stamp at Shiroishi Castle, they passed through Shichikashuku Town and drove into Yamagata Prefecture. The entrants received a stamp at Onogawa Onsen in Yonezawa City, Yamagata Prefecture, then returned to Fukushima Prefecture and competed PC competitions there. All of the vehicles arrived at the hotel before sunset on day two as well. They were able to cross the finish line while it was still light outside for two days in a row. Partly because of the COVID-19 pandemic, not many local people came to each point to cheer for the entrants as yesterday, but still, their warm welcome was so encouraging and made us really happy. Some local people were waiting for us holding a paper with "Welcome Back, Mille Miglia" written on it and others waving from the street, and that touched my heart. On day three, the entrants will drive approximately 390km, setting off from Fukushima Prefecture and passing through Tochigi Prefecture to Narita City in Chiba Prefecture. The mechanics are checking the condition of the cars thoroughly and maintaining the cars in preparation for the long drive. They are also aiming to complete the whole distance along with the entrants. |
